Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in the ACO Thormann Hall

Now, after meanwhile several years of experience, one can truly say that the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival has found a new home on the site of the Kunstwerk Carlshütte and enters into an inspirational symbiosis with the visual arts. Anyone who has experienced the enthusiasm with which young musicians from all over the world work on great music together with renowned conductors, anyone who once immersed himself in the atmosphere of the 120 years old lumberyard converted into a modern concert hall, needs to inevitably declare this Festival Site one of his personal favourite places.

About 120 young musical talents, qualifying from December in global auditions for each festival season, reside at Nordkolleg Rendsburg and rehearse on the site of the tradition-rich, disused iron foundry Carlshütte – also home of NordArt, one of the largest art exhibitions in Europe. As a stage for the festival orchestra, host Hans-Julius Ahlmann, managing partner of the ACO Group, had the 2,000 square metres ACO Thormann Hall remodelled into a rehearsal and concert space in 2011.

Dr. Christian Kuhnt, director of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival: "The ACO Thormann Hall is the ideal rehearsal location. A place not only highly appreciated by our artists, but also by our attendees. The open rehearsals are always well attended, the final rehearsals usually sell out. I am very grateful to Hans-Julius Ahlmann and his wife that they have created such a superlative home for our Festival Orchestra. Let's make art as friends - this is the motto in Büdelsdorf!”
Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann: "Enthusiasm can move a lot! With the entry of the Orchestra Academy on the site of the former iron foundry, the experience for participants, artists as well as the audience grows into another dimension. Our dream is that music and art perform together in the industrial architecture."
Nordkolleg director Guido Froese: "The Nordkolleg has long been a popular academy location for many choirs and orchestras. The Orchestra Academy of the music festival crowns our work as academy of music of the federal state; the entire Nordkolleg team looks forward to the summertime!"
