Art venues
Kunstwerk Carlshütte has a number of attractive display spaces, offering the perfect setting for artists of all kinds. And the Art Café 'Alte Meierei' invites passers-by to take the weight off their feet.
Carlshütte
The Carlshütte is a big, impressive, versatile art space. When the iron foundry was shut down in 1997, it threatened to deprive Büdelsdorf of an important institution that had been its lifeblood for 170 years. But this historic site has been spared to continue telling its story, thanks to a joint initiative by the towns of Büdelsdorf and Rendsburg and the ACO construction group. This huge industrial building is now a unique showcase for international art.
ACO Wagenremise building
The 'Wagenremise' is a historic carriage depot built in 1913 and in the 1990s.The ACO Wagenremise building has received an injection of new life in 1994 when it was repurposed as a venue for smaller exhibitions, concerts and lectures. It was here where the Kunstwerk Carlshütte once started. Today the Wagenremise is still an important part of the NordArt and the works displayed beneath its brightly illuminated white timber beams consist mainly of contemporary painting and sculpture.
Sculpture park
The verdant, tree-filled sculpture park provides an opulent setting for works of hewn granite and finely polished marble, rusty iron and gleaming steel. Each year, art becomes drama as young and old, famous and less well known artists come together to talk and work.
ACO Thormanhalle
New life for an old warehouse: the building erected at the edge of the Carlshütte site by the timber wholesaler Theodor Thormann in 1890 was completely renovated in 2011 and is now the new home of the orchestra academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Between mid-June and mid-August, visitors can get a hands-on feel of how famous conductors rehearse major musical compositions with young musicians.
Public Space
Art knows no boundaries and has therefore also spread out and conquered the surrounding towns of Büdelsdorf and Rendsburg. In this way, sculptures not only point the way to NordArt, they also help to break down apparent barriers and integrate art within everyday life.
